I knew Bill Lyon then. Wigan RLFC made offers to exchange codes, but he declined. Also, they had big dances at the clubhouse every Saturday.

Guerra Colin Nicholson Jack's father?
Comment from:GlynNovember 8, 2014 at 10:07 pm
If the photo had been taken in 1970, Colin would have been around 21 years old, so Jack would have been a beautiful baby.
I studied with Colin and I can honestly say he was a great boy and a good friend.

Colin Nick? Is this the man who first picked up the ball and ran with it and invented the game of rugby?
Comment from:Gideon's errorNovember 9, 2014 at 12:18 pm
The "Chris" could be Chris Unsworth, ex-Newton le Willows. Sounds a bit like him, but I could be wrong. Pete Phillips is missing, of course - he was at Leeds Uni at the time.
Comment from:Kevin WilliamsNovember 9, 2014 at 10:13 am
Yes, he first ran with the ball and then passed it to Jimmy Williams who invented the knock on.

Colin Nicholson, my ass! Elvis lives and enters Orrell.

Des Seabrook was a PE teacher at UpHolland Secondary School at the time and is fondly remembered by all he taught!
Comment from:AWon November 10, 2014 at 9:20 am
Gideonfell, Pete Phillips also taught at UpHolland Secondary School in the mid 70's, he was relatively new there when I moved in 1975

Colin Nic still plays golf! But now he takes the money and runs with it #bardodger

I thought I had a picture of Allan Price playing rugby when I realized the camera hadn't been invented yet.

I've played with Pete Phillips at John Rigby and Leeds Uni. One of the toughest tacklers and nicest guys I've ever met!
Comment from:Nick WoodsNovember 11, 2014 at 1:01 am
worked with Colin Nic at BT, taught me everything I know about phones which is very little, top guy
Comment from:Dirk DiggerNovember 11, 2014 at 1:05 am
Stripped down and ready for action - one of the best 70's porn star teams to ever wear the shirt!
Comment from:Rod BradshawNovember 11, 2014 at 11:27 am
I KNOW HE WOULD BE MUCH OLDER THAN THE OTHERS, BUT HE IS NOT BARRY FISHWICK, THE MISSING NAME
Comment from:tail fishNovember 11, 2014 at 11:34 am
No, it's not Barry, he's a lot older than these guys
Comment from:simply the plagueNovember 11, 2014 at 1:11 pm
Could the mystery man be Barry Fishwick?
Comment from:Trevor BamberNovember 11, 2014 at 8:01 pm
It can't be Barry Fishwick because he was bald in the 1970s, it can be Malc Holland when he dyed his hair blonde because he thought he looked like a famous DJ whose name must not be used.

It's nice to see an old school friend, Harold Bibby, who was certainly a late developer. I don't remember him playing any sport at school, but he was seen here as a regular on one of the best rugby teams in England at the time. Credit to him and Orrell's development program.

Colin Nic - a man so old that Spielberg hired him as a historical consultant for Jurassic Park!
Comment from:KK.November 12, 2014 at 7:39 pm
Colin Nic was my manager at Orrell St James rugby league club, great manager and big guy. I returned to Orrell RU to train the Stallions crew and I believe this was one of the driving forces behind getting Orrell up and running again after they lost everything.

definitely not barry fishwick too young don't think malc holland played rugby but it might be keith walsh before he got sick.
Comment from:R. T. BRADNovember 13, 2014 at 10:14 pm
MALC HOLLAND HAS NEVER PLAYED IN ORRELL, BUT GOES THERE A LOT JUST TO HANG RUGBY PLAYERS. I DON'T KNOW WHERE HE IS NOW. IT STOPPED OUT WHEN WE GO TO DECIMAL IT CANNOT SURROUND THE HEAD. I HOPE HE'S ALL RIGHT
Comment from:Norman Stanley FletcherNovember 14, 2014 at 12:39 pm
Isn't that a picture of a prison XV rugby team? There's Sutcliffe and West
In the back row, Colin Nic is a Nilsen fighter!

Keith Walsh was with the Colts from 1969-1971 and Harold Bibby was the Colts' forward coach for the 1970-71 season. Link to stallion team at the time http://www.wiganworld.co.uk/album/photo.php?opt=7&id=13832&gallery=Orrell+RUFC&offset=0

I saw Colin Nic training on an incredibly shiny new bike the other day.
I asked: "Where did you get such an amazing bike?"
Colin replied, "Well, yesterday I was in Dean Wood just minding my own business when this beautiful woman came up to me on that motorbike. She threw her bike down, took off her clothes and said, "Take what you want!"

Rod Bradshaw, were you Wigan's former brother, the great Tommy Bradshaw?
Comment from:Roland RothwellNovember 16, 2014 at 9:08 pm
No Rod is Tommy's son
Tommy debuted the same year as Colin Nic
Comment from:H U M .DARTNovember 17, 2014 at 6:56 pm
Are you sure Tommy and Rod aren't brothers?
Comment from:Kevin WilliamsNovember 22, 2014 at 1:51 pm
Went to school with Rod Bradshaw, is now in his 70s and it's good to see him back on his feet after his little problem.

Frank Littler was my trainer at John Rigby. Great player, great coach and a top guy. As I got older, I also met Des Seabrook, another true gentleman.
Comment from:Chris NorburnJune 20, 2020 at 00:06
I played on the wing for Orrell from September 1970 to February 1973 before moving to N Devon and was privileged to play with two first class centers in Bill Lyon and Frank Littler and the one and only Des Seabrook. As a local dentist, I remember putting 2 or 3 stitches in Martin Beattie's incision above his eye in the locker room after a game. Also, when the second tall rower, John Leigh, came to fill in, he actually grabbed my abdomen and said, "We're not going to hurt ourselves, are we?"
He had a great sense of humor and I was fine after laying down. great days Chris Norburn
